Guards on washdown process machines
Mixers, cutters, slicers and peelers are washed every day with pressurised hot water, steam and chemicals. A standard guard switch loses its seal, collects residue in its slots and ends up failing or bypassed. On top of that, a blade keeps coasting for several seconds after the stop: if the guard opens immediately, the operator reaches the moving part.
PNOZsigma safety relay with time-delayed contacts from 0.04 to 300 s: handles stop category 1 and enables guard unlocking only once the braking time has elapsed, up to PLe per ISO 13849-1. On motors without a drive or position control, the PSWZ standstill monitor does not rely on a fixed time: it measures the residual voltage the motor generates as it stops and releases the guard only once standstill is confirmed. On the doors, PSENmag magnetic sensors with stainless steel housing, IP67 and IP69K, which withstand hot-steam cleaning. To keep lids and windows closed during the cycle (process protection), PSENslock 2 with stainless components, IP67 and IP6K9K, holds with 1000 or 2000 N. PDP67 decentralised input modules, with stainless steel M12 connections and IP67, bring the signals to PNOZmulti 2 without wiring each sensor back to the panel.
